Specification of system components and software
Crystal's systems engineers will help you define a complete system to fit your application needs.
Whether it is Crystal designed products or third party products, Crystal will help you design your
entire system. Consideration will be given to long term reliability, scalability requirements, cooling
and power parameters, weight and space limitations, and total cost of ownership.
Third Party Equipment - Procurement, Integration and Support
Crystal will specify, procure, integrate, and provide tier-one support for all third party hardware &
software making Crystal a one-stop vendor for all of your systems requirements. If you know what you want,
tell us. If you want us to make recommendations, we will do that as well. No need to call a different
vendor to place orders, no need to place multiple calls to track ship dates, no need to pay multiple
invoices and most importantly, no need to place calls to different vendors to solve a technical support
issue. Because we support the entire system, you won't ever hear us tell you that your problem is "not
our problem".
Customer Supplied Hardware and Software Management
If you wish to provide some or all of a systems components or software, Crystal will inventory those
items in a separate "customer stores" inventory system. For hardware items, we will receive, warehouse
& insure, install, configure, and test them as part of the integration process. We will also maintain
complete records of all components by serial number and match them to specific orders, chassis and / or
rack systems so that when you want to know where specific components are located, we can tell you quickly
and easily. This is especially important when there is a vendor recall or service bulletin.
If we manage your software application inventory, we will track the revision numbers for every shipment
and we will provide complete revision upgrades for any service units at your direction. We can also
directly duplicate OS configurations as well as provide OS license management.
Crystal does Racks like no one else does Racks.
For over a decade, Crystal has been building, testing and installing complex rack based server architecture
for the communications industry. Crystal rack systems are found in CO's and Data Center's around the world
driving mission critical service applications. Companies like AOL, MCI / Worldcom, UUNet, and West
Corporation trust Crystal with the design, assembly and testing of complete rack based server installations.
Crystal can provide rack integration services for non-Crystal hardware applications or Crystal can provide
complete Crystal server based rack assemblies, turnkey, ready to install - or if you like - Crystal
technicians will install them for you as well. All of Crystal's integrated rack systems are custom tailored
to each user's needs.
Rack Integration for Non-Crystal Products:
Crystal specializes in the design, assembly, testing, and installation of complex rack based applications.
Regardless of the components chosen, Crystal will provide rack type and layout consulting, cable management
designs, component procurement, rack / system assembly, and complete rack system testing.
Crystal is at home with -48VDC, +24VDC, and standard AC power configurations including tailored power bus
architecture and DC fuse panels. Crystal will terminate all cabling to precut pigtails, patch panels, or
punch down blocks based upon design requirements. And all cabling will be labeled and color-coded for easy
site installation and service.
Completed racks are crated for shipping in a manner that eliminates freight damage and maximizes ease of
installation. And if requested, Crystal will provide complete site survey, site installation, and post
sales support services around the world.
Crystal will source and install all of the rack peripherals you need for a complete system installation
including Ethernet switches, routers, storage, terminals / consoles, UPS and power control systems,
demarcation devices, and multiple circuit power bus systems. Crystal will also inventory, install and test
customer provided peripherals and software to meet your specifications. For customer provided products,
Crystal maintains a customer inventory based MRP structure to provide timely asset management data upon
request.
Rack Integration for Crystal Based Applications:
When you add Crystal' s high reliability server architecture and Crystal's exclusive QuickConnect® cable
management system to the integration capabilities listed above, you get the most advanced, space efficient,
and easy to service rack installations available.
Using Crystal's QuickConnect cable management system, racks can be completely assembled, wired, and tested
at Crystal's facility prior to shipment. After test, the servers simply slide out for easy packaging and
shipping and when they arrive at your destination, installation is as simple as putting the rack in place,
sliding the servers into place, plugging in the applicable I/O and powering up.
Crystal can cut rack installation time from days to only hours - reducing your overhead and eliminating
improper cabling issues at the same time.
Systems level industry certifications
Just because you purchase a product / server that has a specific certification attached doesn't mean it
will remain certified once you change the configuration by adding new components, peripherals, etc. Simply
changing a hard drive size / brand or changing the NIC will likely require the system to be re-certified.
To properly comply with industry / country certifications, the complete system as shipped / installed must
be certified in it's delivered form.
Certifications are complicated and can require significant time and expense to accomplish correctly. At
Crystal we have been providing integration and certification services for over a decade. If your
application or product requires specific systems level certifications, Crystal can provide these services
for you. Crystal can design products to meet specific certifications, or we can provide the integration
and certification services for products provided by third party suppliers. And if Crystal provides the
certifications, Crystal will also support you in the event that specific agencies or countries challenge
your product certifications. This service alone has saved numerous clients significant time and expense.
Crystal maintains relationships with multiple national testing labs to provide the following certifications:
- Safety: UL 1950 / CSA C22.2-950 / IEC 60950 / EN 60950
- Emissions: FCC Part 15, Subpart B, ICES-003 (Canada), EN 55022 / CISPR 22, EN 61000-3-2 - Harmonics, EN 61000-3-3 - Flicker
- Immunity: EN 55024 / CISPR 24, IEC 61000-4-2 - ESD, IEC 61000-4-3 - Radiated RF, IEC 61000-4-4 - EFT, IEC 61000-4-5 - Surge, IEC 61000-4-6 - RF Conducted, IEC 61000-4-11 - Voltage dips, interrupts & variations
- NEBS: Levels 1, 2 or 3
- Certification Marks: UL, C-UL, CE, and NEBS.
- Other country certifications are available on a case-by-case basis.
In-field installation and implementation support
Once your system is complete, Crystal will provide technical personnel to assist in system installation
and application implementation. Having a skilled systems expert on-hand during initial deployment can save
you money, time, and most importantly, your reputation. Crystal will also provide pre-installation site
surveys and advise you of situations that need attention prior to installation. In this manner, you can
show up for an install completely prepared and you can be sure that the site is ready for you to be there.
Our experience in this process has saved many customers significant expense and embarrassment.
